Odaily Planet Daily reports that Barclays analysts indicate the prediction market is threatening other speculative investment tools and has become a strong competitor for leveraged ETPs. Data shows that since the 2024 U.S. presidential election, the nominal trading volume of prediction platforms has been consistently rising each month, with Kalshi and Polymarket's nominal trading volume in April surpassing $24 billion, nearly matching the scale of 'call option oversubscription strategies' in indices and individual stocks, while a year ago that figure was only $5 billion.
Analysts believe the prediction market craze is not driven by an AI bubble, but rather by the viral spread among the younger generation, with nearly one-third of Gen Z and the next generation of millennials actively investing in or considering participating in prediction markets and sports betting. However, at this stage, the prediction market still struggles to compete with the retail flagship product 0DTE; the total trading volume in the S&P 0DTE market reached a staggering $57 trillion this March.
