Crypto News: On May 14, the Myanmar military proposed a draft law suggesting life imprisonment for crypto scam operators. This proposal, named the (Anti-Online Scam Law), stipulates that anyone found guilty of "digital currency fraud" or running online scam operations could face sentences ranging from 10 years to life, with death penalties for operators employing violence or torture. The military-supported parliament is set to convene in June, marking the new government's first legislative push. The FBI reports that crypto-related scam losses have hit $11.4 billion, with over half of internet crime losses linked to crypto schemes. Myanmar's scam operations are massive, with Chainalysis finding that between 2022 and 2024, romance scammers from KK Park in Myawaddy siphoned nearly $100 million in cryptocurrency. This legislation is part of a regional shift, as Cambodia passed anti-scam laws in March 2026, with prison terms reaching up to 10 years.
