Crypto World News: Microsoft plans to pull the plug on most internal Claude Code licenses by June 30, pushing engineers to switch back to GitHub Copilot CLI. Teams responsible for Windows, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams, and Surface will fully phase out Claude Code. Back in December, Microsoft opened Claude Code to thousands of employees, but six months later, engineers favored Claude Code in their daily grind, leaving the homegrown Copilot CLI in the dust. Microsoft even considered acquiring Cursor to fill the gap, but scrapped the idea due to antitrust concerns. E+D Executive VP Rajesh Jha noted in an internal memo that the real value of Copilot CLI lies in shaping the product together with GitHub. The cancellation of Claude Code won't impact Microsoft's other collaborations with Anthropic, as the Claude model can still be accessed through Copilot CLI, continuing to serve in Microsoft 365 and Copilot.
