Korean stocks have surged over 200% in the past year.
In the South Korean market, signs of enthusiasm are everywhere. Over the last year, the KOSPI has led the globe with an astonishing 200% increase, leaving other markets in the dust.

According to a Bloomberg report on the 14th, the gains in the Korean stock market far surpass those in other global markets, intoxicating local investors. They are ramping up their bets on the stock market through record levels of borrowing.

A sense of 'FOMO' (Fear of Missing Out) is spreading across offices, restaurants, and even family gatherings throughout Korea, driving more and more investors to buy stocks for their kids. Data compiled by Toss Securities shows that the number of new accounts opened by minors under 18 surged nearly tenfold in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

According to data from the Korea Financial Investment Association, by early May, the financing balance in the Korean stock market skyrocketed to a record 36.3 trillion won, up 32% from the end of December last year. However, this figure is just the 'tip of the iceberg' as many loans used for stock purchases are often categorized under other credit types.
