Foresight News reports that an anonymous crypto whale, going by the alias 'DB', has filed a lawsuit against Coinbase, accusing them of refusing to return frozen funds related to a 2024 crypto heist. The defendants include Coinbase and the alleged thief 'John Doe'. Although parts of the lawsuit are redacted, the disclosed details closely resemble a crypto theft case from August 2024, where a crypto whale lost approximately $55 million worth of DAI.

According to the complaint, DB fell victim to a phishing scam on August 20, 2024, after logging into a fraudulent page, leading to the theft of their wallet. Reports indicate that the attacker utilized a crypto theft platform called 'Inferno Drainer' to siphon off DB's DAI holdings. Some of the stolen funds were later traced back to a Coinbase retail user account, as referenced by blockchain security firm Zero Shadow. The document does not disclose the amount of funds stored in that account. After DB notified the exchange, Coinbase froze these assets but refused to return them to the plaintiff without a court ruling on ownership.
