Crypto Shock Post-FOMC! What's Next? ๐๐
The latest FOMC meeting has just concluded, and wow, the markets really took a hit! The Fed announced another rate cut of 25 basis points, bringing the federal funds rate down to 3.75%-4.00%. Typically, lower interest rates mean a green light for riskier assets like crypto, as investors seek higher returns outside traditional savings.
However, the real drama came from the press conference of Fed Chair Jerome Powell. His statements indicated a much more cautious and data-dependent pathโless "dovish" than some buyers had hoped. This "less aggressive" stance quickly led to a shake-out.
Immediately after the news, we saw significant short-term volatility. Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), along with major altcoins, experienced sharp declines. Why? Because the market had largely priced in the cuts, and Powell's cautious tone dampened enthusiasm for a series of quick cuts in the future. Traders with high leverage for a big rally were forced to liquidate, causing a temporary drop.
But hereโs the key: historically, monetary policy easing (interest rate cuts) tends to be bullish for crypto in the long term due to increased market liquidity. We are now watching to see if the recent decline is just a "flush-out" of overly leveraged positions before long-term fundamentals take hold.
The next big date is the December FOMC meeting.
