CZ didn't know how amazing his father was when he was young. He only knew that his father was rarely at home, coming back only twice a year. Later he realized that his father was the first person in the village to go to college. As soon as he entered university, the Cultural Revolution began, leading to class suspensions, being sent down to the countryside, and undergoing re-education. After ten years without books, his father never gave up on studying. While others played cards and drank, he self-studied calculus, linear algebra, and electromagnetic fields. When the Cultural Revolution ended and admissions resumed, his father took the entrance exam and was accepted to the University of Science and Technology of China for graduate studies. He later went abroad as an exchange scholar and eventually brought the whole family to Canada. CZ said: "My father never told me 'you need to work hard', but everything he did told me: don't give up on books, and walk your own path." A child who did homework under a kerosene lamp later founded Binance. It wasn't a sudden realization; it was having a role model at home who walked ahead slowly.
