What is the recently popular X402? Can we still use it?
In the past few days, the X402 protocol has become popular. Previously, we talked about ERC404, which is the concept of mixed tokens. The project Pandora has now also gone to zero, and then X314 has almost gone to zero as well.
So let's take a look at what X402 really is and what it can be used for.
1. What is the X402 protocol?
X402 is an open payment protocol initiated by Coinbase (Coinbase Developer Platform) in collaboration with several institutions/infrastructure companies.
The '402' in the protocol name comes from the HTTP status code '402 Payment Required', which was defined early on but was hardly ever used. X402 'revives' this status code, turning it into a form of 'native web payment' mechanism.
