Federal Deputy Hugo Leal (PSD-RJ) presented, on Monday (13), a request for information asking that the Ministry of Finance clarify how the supervision of tax collection on betting houses (bets) and operations with cryptocurrencies is being conducted.

In the document, the parliamentarian questions which tools the Federal Revenue uses to track movements with digital assets, including those made in self-custody wallets and on foreign platforms. He also requests data on how many taxpayers declared cryptocurrencies in the 2023 Income Tax and what the total amount reported was.

Other points raised by Leal include whether the Revenue Service maintains cooperation agreements with national or international exchanges for the sharing of information and whether there is an estimate of the volume of undeclared cryptoassets by Brazilians, as well as the potential revenue that could be obtained.

In the justification of the request, the deputy cites Provisional Measure 1,303, recently rejected by Congress, stating that it exposed the existence of relevant economic sectors that still operate outside of tax compliance, either due to omission of income or lack of information to the Federal Revenue.

Regarding cryptocurrencies, Leal highlights that the profits obtained from these assets are often not declared correctly, which ultimately prevents the collection of taxes on income and other associated contributions.
