🕊️ Today's geopolitical news is heavy and concerning
On this 28th of February 2026, tensions in the Middle East have reached a new threshold: the United States and Israel have launched joint preemptive strikes against Iran targeting nuclear sites, military installations, and command centers in Tehran, Isfahan, and other cities.
President Donald Trump has announced "major combat operations" to neutralize Iranian threats and consider regime change.
In response, Iran has launched missiles and drones against Israel (sirens and shelters activated) and American bases in the region such as Al Udeid in Qatar, Al Dhafra in the Emirates, and even the US naval base in Bahrain. Explosions have been reported in several Iranian cities, and airspace is closed in several countries.
On X, eyewitnesses report intense airstrikes in Bushehr and Mehrabad, while US personnel in Qatar are confined and the threat of regional escalation with the Houthis and other actors is palpable.
Several international voices, such as the Norwegian Foreign Minister, condemn these actions as non-compliant with international law. Markets are reacting: rising oil prices, falling risky assets, and a high probability of Iranian attacks on Qatar according to some sources.
💔 My feeling: it is heartbreaking to see civilians (children, families...) caught in the middle of these power games. Diplomacy has failed after the breakdown of nuclear negotiations, and the risk of a broader conflict looms with impacts on global energy, the economy, and peace.
🙏 Let us hope that calls for calm will prevail and that the international community will act for de-escalation. Human life is worth more than any strategic issue. Thoughts for all those affected.🕊
