BBVA, one of the largest banks in Spain and with a strong international presence, has recently strengthened its relationship with Ripple, the company behind the cryptocurrency $XRP, through an agreement to implement Ripple's custody technology on its new trading and digital asset custody platform for retail clients. This move, announced on September 9, 2025, allows BBVA to offer secure services for crypto assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other tokenized assets, using the Ripple Custody solution, which leverages the XRP Ledger for fast, low-cost, and highly scalable transactions. It's a significant shift, as in 2017 BBVA had considered Ripple's technology as unsuitable for practical use, but after successful tests in cross-border payments between Spain and Mexico — where transfers were completed in seconds — the bank now integrates it to drive institutional adoption of XRP in Europe. This partnership not only validates the maturity of XRP as a bridge for global payments and custody but also boosts its momentum in the market, with analysts predicting a possible rally towards $3.65 or more, driven by increasing demand and regulatory expansion in the traditional financial sector.
