🇵🇪 Peru has completed its first cryptocurrency payment from a bank as part of a pilot project.
The Banco de Crédito del Perú (BCP) has completed the first cryptocurrency payment issued by a bank in Peru.
An employee used a token issued by the bank to buy coffee from a café, as part of a pilot project for these technologies.
Lennin Carrillo, head of the blockchain and cryptocurrency department at BCP, said:
"We wanted to understand the difficulties that someone who knows nothing about cryptocurrencies might face, but is accustomed to digital wallets, when downloading a wallet, adding a token, and then using it. All of this was provided by the bank, without any financial risk to the user."
