📉 Standard Chartered significantly lowers forecast: Is Bitcoin's drop to $50,000 a foregone conclusion?
Once the most ardent supporter of Bitcoin, Standard Chartered's (渣打银行) perspective has recently changed. Analyst Geoffrey Kendrick's team has drastically reduced the cryptocurrency target price for 2026.
Key points summary:
📍 BTC: Expected to see a potential "final capitulation" trend soon, dropping to $50,000. Although optimistic about a rebound to $100,000 by the end of 2026, this is a 33% reduction from the previous $150,000 forecast.
📍 ETH: Ethereum faces enormous pressure, potentially reaching $1,400 in the short term, with the 2026 year-end target price cut in half from $7,500 to $4,000.
📍 Altcoins: XRP's expected target is lowered by 65% to $2.80; Solana (SOL) target price reduced to $135; BNB target price adjusted to $1,050.
Why the pessimism?
1️⃣ ETF fund outflow: Since the peak in October 2025, approximately 100,000 BTC have flowed out of spot ETFs, leading to heavy selling pressure.
2️⃣ Macroeconomic environment: Weak U.S. economic data, coupled with policy uncertainty before the new Federal Reserve Chairman (Kevin Warsh) took office in May, has put pressure on risk assets.
3️⃣ Loss-holding selling pressure: Most ETF holders are in a loss position, selling on rebounds rather than “buying the dip.”
Is there still hope for the long term?
Standard Chartered is not completely bearish; they maintain a long-term forecast of Bitcoin reaching $500,000 by 2030. The current adjustment is more a temporary correction based on liquidity crisis.
🤔 Do you think we will see BTC at $50,000? Is this the "last chance to get on board" or the beginning of a bear market? Feel free to discuss in the comments!
