What is Bitcoin’s Realized Price?
The Realized Price is a widely used on-chain indicator, and honestly one of the ones I personally find most relevant for understanding market structure.
It represents the average acquisition price of all BTC currently in circulation, calculated based on the last time each Bitcoin moved on-chain.
The idea behind this metric is straightforward: avoid distorting the analysis by including $BTC that were lost 10–15 years ago or locked in ultra-long-term cold storage and no longer participate in market dynamics.
Instead, it focuses on the active supply, meaning investors who are actually active in the market today.
Very old holders, those who have held #BTC for 7–10+ years without selling since 2015–2018, have an extremely low cost basis, sometimes just a few hundred or a few thousand dollars.
Including them pulls the average price down too much, which makes the indicator less useful for analyzing current market conditions.
On the chart shared by CryptoQuant, only holders from the last 7 years are taken into account.
According to their data, Bitcoin’s Realized Price is currently around $73,000.
When the market price approaches or drops below this level, it means that most active market participants are near break-even or are starting to sit on unrealized losses.
These are the participants who actually drive price movements.
Historically, when price trades near or below the Realized Price, selling pressure tends to increase.
Many investors bought recently at higher levels, which often leads to panic selling or stop-loss triggers.
At the same time, this area often acts as a local equilibrium or capitulation zone.
Once weak hands are flushed out, the market can stabilize, and in some cases, begin to move higher again.
That’s why this level is both technical and psychological, and why it’s being closely watched right now, especially during this post-ATH 2025 correction, where price has been oscillating around this key threshold.
