In the advice given to young developers, Gavin also mentioned that the goal of Web3 has never been simply to "move" Web2 services like banking, payments, and social interactions onto the chain.
In his view, this approach essentially continues to operate under the old social contract, merely using a different technical implementation, and it does not bring about real change.
He summarizes the core of Web3 as a deeper question: the social contract.
What is truly worthwhile in Web3 is not to replicate existing institutions, but to think in reverse:
- If society were to start from scratch, how would we design the rules?
- Which powers should be held by individuals rather than institutions?
Gavin has always believed that Web3 is not a collection of financial products, but rather an infrastructure for redesigning the way society collaborates!
Looking forward to seeing Parity quickly release the Polkadot products under Gavin's leadership!
