In a call with community members on Thursday, MakerDAO founder Rune Christensen said MakerDAO should rename its stablecoin DAI to make it easier for “regular people” to understand.

Christensen said in a phone discussion that a poor brand image could inhibit the growth of the protocol’s decentralization plan, known as the “Endgame Plan.” “If the stablecoin wants to attract ordinary people, the correct name must contain USD,” Christensen said. “But the new name means that the token will continue to be pegged to the US dollar, and there is no guarantee that the peg will be there.”

He called for a “complete rebrand, a new name, a new look, a completely different approach to user acquisition,” saying it was “the only way to control the narrative.” He added that MakerDAO should position DAI as a currency that users can use to generate yield. He argued that DAI should be viewed as “the safest, most reliable gamified cryptocurrency.” Not all attendees agreed with Christensen’s arguments. (CoinDesk)
