Paul Atkins drives 'Project Crypto' to make the U.S. the global capital of cryptocurrencies

Washington D.C., August 15, 2025 – In a historic speech delivered this morning at 8:30 a.m. ET, the chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Paul Atkins, presented the advancements of 'Project Crypto', an ambitious initiative aimed at modernizing the regulation of digital asset markets and positioning the United States as the global leader in blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. During his remarks at the SEC Speaks event, Atkins emphasized that 'it is a new day at the SEC' and underscored the need for a clear regulatory framework that fosters innovation without compromising investor protection.

Atkins announced that 'Project Crypto' aims to establish clear rules for the issuance, custody, and trading of crypto assets, promoting the tokenization of assets such as the U.S. dollar and Treasury bonds, as well as modernizing the trading infrastructure based on blockchain. 'We will not stand by while innovation develops abroad. We will lead and ensure that the next chapter of financial innovation is written in America,' he stated, aligning with President Trump's vision of making the U.S. the 'crypto capital of the world'.

The SEC chairman also emphasized the importance of updating custody rules for crypto assets, replacing regulatory uncertainty with clarity for investors and entrepreneurs. Additionally, he highlighted the potential of blockchain technology to enable nearly instantaneous settlements, which could reduce risks and generate significant benefits for financial markets.
