Ethereum Classic (ETC) is a cryptocurrency created in 2016 after the Ethereum blockchain split into two forks.
This happened as a result of a hard fork of the Ethereum blockchain due to a controversial decision to restore funds that were stolen as a result of hacking one of the decentralized applications on this platform.
The key difference between Ethereum Classic and Ethereum is that Ethereum Classic rejects the idea of changing the blockchain to return stolen funds, considering this a violation of the main idea of decentralization and security.
Ethereum Classic uses the same mining algorithm as Ethereum, but differs significantly in terms of its economic model. Ethereum Classic has a limited number of tokens, while Ethereum has no limit on the number of tokens issued.
It is worth noting that Ethereum Classic is not as popular as its predecessor, and its capitalization on the cryptocurrency market is much lower. However, it has its supporters and is used as a medium of exchange on cryptocurrency exchanges.
