Origin and Development of Ethereum (ETH)
1. Idea and Whitepaper
Ethereum was proposed in late 2013 by a Russian-Canadian programmer named Vitalik Buterin
He published a whitepaper outlining a platform that could support decentralized applications (dApps)through smart contracts-something Bitcoin couldn’t natively do.

2. Development Begins
In 2014, a group of co-founders including Gavin Wood, Joseph Lubin and others joined the project.A crowdsale (ICO)
was conducted in mid-2014, raising over $18 million, one of the largest crowdfunding events at the time.

3. Launch
Ethereum officially launched on July 30, 2015, with its first version called Frontier.
ETH (Ether) is the native cryptocurrency of the Ethereum network, used to pay for gas fees (transaction costs).
Key Innovations
Smart Contracts Self-executing code that runs exactly as programmed without downtime or third-party interference.

dApps
Decentralized applications built on Ethereum’s open-source framework.
ERC-20 Tokens Ethereum enabled the creation of thousands of other crypto tokens (like USDT ,Chainlink etc) on its platform.

Notable Events
The DAO Hack (2016)A major exploit resulted in $50 million worth of ETH being stolen, leading to a controversial hard fork that split Ethereum into two chains
Ethereum (ETH) the current main chain.
Ethereum Classic (ETC) the original unaltered chain.
Ethereum 2.0 (a.k.a The Merge)In 2022, Ethereum transitioned from Proof of Work (PoW) to Proof of Stake (PoS), drastically reducing energy consumption and improving scalability.

Impact
Ethereum has become the second-largest cryptocurrency after Bitcoin.
It is the foundation for DeFi (Decentralized Finance) NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) and Web3 innovations.
