SEC and Ripple reach agreement to end legal dispute
According to Odaily, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) officially submitted a settlement agreement with Ripple Labs and its executives, Bradley Garlinghouse and Christian Larsen, on May 8, 2025. This agreement concludes a legal dispute that lasted four and a half years. According to the terms of the agreement, both parties will jointly request the court to lift the injunction against Ripple from the decision of August 7, 2024, and release the funds from the $125 million custody account. Of this amount, $50 million will be paid to the SEC, while the remaining $75 million will be returned to Ripple.
The agreement also stipulates that if the court agrees to lift the injunction, both parties will withdraw their cross-appeals currently under review by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. The SEC emphasized that this agreement aims to advance the reform of its cryptocurrency regulatory framework and does not constitute an acknowledgment of the substantial claims of the case, nor does it establish a precedent for other cases.
