1. Future functions
The functionality and performance of the Filecoin network will continue to evolve over time. The following are examples of such developments:
● Repair Miner: Currently, if a miner terminates storing a sector, they need to pay the sector termination fee as described above. However, if another miner is storing the data, there should be a role called the repair miner to retrieve the data and establish a new transaction, integrating the data into the new sector and ensuring that the corresponding number of copies are stored.
● Application miners: A large part of the value of storage services comes from applications, user experience improvements, and different usage scenarios developed on the service itself. Therefore, for future versions of Filecoin, it is very important to incentivize the development of high-quality applications that can improve market utility.
● Filecoin lending: Token holders can lend their tokens to miners as third-party collateral, and work with miners to diversify market volatility risks and gain returns.
● Rapidly retrievable proof of replication: Future proof of replication will provide secure, fast and efficient retrieval services.
● Scalable consensus: Improved consensus mechanisms will increase throughput and security.
● Universal smart contracts: Improvements to the Filecoin blockchain will enable the use of universal smart contracts and on-chain state machines. These improvements will significantly increase the productivity of the Filecoin economy. Increased productivity will boost demand and maximize long-term development and prosperity, thereby increasing the utility of the network.
2 Governance and Development
After the mainnet is launched, it is important to establish reasonable processes and mechanisms to jointly decide the future of the network. The Filecoin network will use the Filecoin Improvement Proposal (FIP) method similar to Bitcoin's BIP and Ethereum's EIP. The details of the FIP process have not yet been finalized, but all parameter and mechanism updates after the Filecoin mainnet is launched will be determined through FIP.
Finally, it is important to emphasize that Filecoin is a collaborative economy that will continue to evolve over time.
However, these future improvements will be in the form of proposals that explain in detail how these solutions benefit the long-term interests of the Filecoin economy and each participant class. As the network grows, it is critical to build an economy that can operate independently and robustly without a lot of tools and subsidies.
