Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has faced criticism and skepticism from the community this week for including the privacy coin Zcash (ZEC) on its potential delisting cryptocurrency voting list.

According to the information released by Binance, the new round of delisting includes not only Zcash, which has a market capitalization of $500 million, but also the platform token FTT from the bankrupt exchange FTX, as well as the once-popular Taiwanese DeFi project PERP.

Regarding being listed on the delisting voting list, Zcash founder Zooko Wilcox on Tuesday tagged Binance CEO Richard Teng on X, saying:

"You actually consider delisting Zcash!? What kind of world do you want to create? Do you want your children to grow up in peace and prosperity, or in the dystopia of (Black Mirror)?"

Barry Silbert, founder of Digital Currency Group, also shared several posts expressing regret over Binance's inclusion of Zcash on the pending delisting list. At the same time, Ledger CTO Charles Guillemet and Cosmos co-founder Ethan Buchman also expressed similar views, emphasizing the importance of privacy.

But from Binance's perspective, privacy coins have long been a focus of discussion among financial regulators. As early as 2022, a leaked EU document suggested a complete ban on privacy coins. Moreover, many community members have stated that if Zcash cannot be delisted simply because it 'supports privacy', such an argument is somewhat emotional blackmail, after all, developers of privacy solutions are not limited to Zcash.
