April 5, 2025, marks the 50th birthday of Satoshi Nakamoto - the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. This birth date is based on the date listed in his P2P Foundation profile.

Although Nakamoto's true identity remains unconfirmed, his legacy continues to shape the landscape of digital finance. Below are five facts about this mysterious architect of Bitcoin:

April 5 is Not Coincidental

Nakamoto listed April 5, 1975, as his birth date - exactly 42 years after the U.S. government banned private gold ownership under Executive Order 6102 on April 5, 1933, to stabilize the dollar.

In contrast, Bitcoin is designed to be a decentralized, deflationary alternative to fiat money. Notably, the BTC difficulty adjustment occurs every 2016 blocks - 2016 is 6102 in reverse.

Satoshi Nakamoto's Bitcoin Asset Block Remains Intact

Satoshi's wallet, believed to hold 1.096 million BTC, has not been touched since early 2010. Over the past decade, its value has increased more than 333 times, now exceeding $91 billion.

Although the wallet is inactive, CoinJoin transactions are still regularly sent to its address. Some view this as an act of homage or a method of concealing.

Still No Certain Identity

In March 2024, a British court ruled that Australian computer scientist Craig Wright is not Satoshi, calling his claims 'deliberately false'.

An HBO documentary in October 2024 sparked controversy by pointing to Canadian developer Peter Todd, who has strongly denied any connection.

More recently, internet theories have speculated about a possible connection to Jack Dorsey, although there is no evidence supporting this claim. Nakamoto's identity remains one of the most enduring mysteries on the internet.

The Silent Message of the Genesis Block

Embedded in the first Bitcoin block is the headline: 'The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks.' This line is taken from a British newspaper.

It is considered a critique of centralized monetary policy and remains one of Nakamoto's only public statements outside of the technical paper.

Bitcoin Design Remains Intact

Fifteen years after its launch, Bitcoin remains secure and deflationary by design. Nakamoto's codebase, although modified and improved by the open-source community, still forms the foundation of the network, safeguarding a value of over $1.6 trillion.
