Since sports NFTs landed on Ethereum in 2018, digital collectibles have established a firm foothold in the sports industry and proved that they are here to stay. These NFTs have changed the way athletes and teams interact with their fan base, paving the way for direct interaction and new revenue streams. Big brands such as Nike have also joined in, as seen in its 2023 partnership with Madden and FIFA.

The shift in fan engagement has opened up new ways for people to own special items that go beyond just remembering a great game. Just like traditional fan clubs and season ticket memberships, digital sports collectibles and sports NFT items offer unique experiences such as player meet-and-greets and limited edition card packs. These new forms of fan engagement draw on nostalgic traditions of the past, connecting to the traditions that have defined fandom for generations.

Even in our increasingly digital world, sports fans still cherish the crack of a baseball bat or the cheers of the crowd as a basketball passes through the hoop at the final whistle, and digital collectibles celebrate these simple moments while using new technology to keep these memories alive.

In this article, we’ll look at eight sports NFT collections that are shaking up the sports industry and giving sports fans new experiences to cheer about.
