The Federal Revenue requires that all individuals who have purchased an amount equal to or greater than R$ 5,000 in cryptoassets in 2024 must declare these cryptoassets in the Income Tax for 2025.

The obligation, however, is valid by category of cryptoasset. This means that if a person has purchased R$ 5,000 in bitcoin and R$ 2,500 in ethereum, for example, only the declaration of bitcoin is mandatory.

For taxpayers who have purchased smaller amounts in virtual currencies, the declaration of cryptocurrencies is optional.

The declaration of cryptocurrencies in the Income Tax must be made in reais. Furthermore, the taxpayer must always consider the acquisition value of the digital currency, not the market value. In other words, declare how much you actually paid for the cryptocurrency.
