What happened to XRP?

In 2020, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sued Ripple, the company that issued the XRP cryptocurrency. They said that Ripple sold XRP as securities (stocks) but did not register them. This led to many exchanges removing XRP from their platforms and the price of the coin dropped dramatically.

Why is this important?

If Ripple wins the court case, XRP may become popular again, and its price will rise. If they lose, Ripple will have to pay huge fines, and trust in the coin may decline.

What's happening now?

In 2023, the court partially recognized that XRP is not a security when sold on exchanges, but for institutional investors (banks and large companies), this is still in question. The final decision is expected in 2025.

What to expect in 2025?

Ripple's victory: XRP may rise in price, exchanges will relist it.

Ripple's loss: The company will pay a fine, but the coin will not disappear.

Compromise: Ripple and the SEC may come to an agreement, then XRP will remain on the market, but with new rules.
