On November 15, Scott Melker (aka “The Wolf of All Streets”) stated that one of his followers had been hacked in a recent scam targeting Ledger users, CryptoPotato reported. While checking their Nano S hardware wallet, the user reported a 503 HTTP API error when trying to sync. The victim contacted Ledger support and reported that their chief technology officer sent them a direct message via X. This should set off alarm bells because support won’t be as fast and customers will definitely not be talking to an executive but will more likely be dealing with a chatbot. The fake CTO walks users through a five-step "fix," which involves visiting a fake website and entering details about the device and passphrase. The victim said: "I even asked him why he needed to do this and he mentioned it was end-to-end encrypted and needed to be synchronized." The victim added: "Too fast, obviously not thinking clearly, I gave the password phrase, and found out a few minutes later that my account had been completely wiped out." Melker lamented that the man "took security very seriously," but a simple mistake was enough to land him in trouble. "This happens to a lot of people, but they never tell you," he added. "Real support will never ask you for a passphrase, and this type of phishing scam relies on social engineering to trick users into making mistakes, which can Happens to any wallet.
