According to Cointelegraph, the NFT market OpenSea will deactivate its on-chain royalty enforcement tool Operator Filter on August 31, which allows creators to blacklist NFT markets that do not enforce royalties. The Operator Filter feature was first launched in November 2022 and was described as a "simple code snippet" that can limit NFT sales to markets that only enforce creator fees. However, Devin Finzer, founder and CEO of OpenSea, said that the tool was not as successful as expected because it did not receive the support needed by the NFT ecosystem. Starting August 31, Operator Filter will no longer block any markets. However, for any collections using the tool and existing collections on non-Ethereum blockchains, the creator's preferred fee will be enforced until February 29, 2024.
