The open source platform ai16z focuses on the development and management of AI agents and officially changed its name to ElizaOS. Founder Shaw Walters announced the change, emphasizing that the new name can strengthen the partnerships currently using ElizaOS technology, while strengthening the brand image and auspiciousness of the platform. Product and spokesperson Eliza will continue to represent the project.
The decision to change the name is believed to be partly influenced by a request from venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), as the similarity of the names caused confusion in the industry. a16z Crypto Managing Partner Chris Dixon confirmed that they had asked ai16z to change the name to avoid any confusion. Walters noted that the original name was a "playful homage" to a16z, but as the platform grew rapidly, adopting a more professional identity became necessary.
Despite the name change, the token name ai16z will remain unchanged for now. Future modifications to the token will be decided by the community through the upcoming DAO voting module. The project has guaranteed that no new tokens will be created and its development roadmap or the governance structure will not change.
ElizaOS is a set of TypeScript-based tools that enable developers to build AI agents with a variety of capabilities. The project runs on the Solana blockchain and features a unique governance model involving AI and community participation, with token holders working with the platform’s AI agents to propose and vote on investment ideas and strategic plans.
The name change is seen as a strategic move to increase community engagement and collaboration opportunities, in line with the growing trend of integrating AI and cryptocurrency technologies. The ElizaOS team has notified relevant exchanges as the AI16Z token is listed on multiple centralized exchanges including Bybit, Bitget, Gate.io and KuCoin.
The platform is currently developing Eliza v2, which aims to create the most powerful smart agent framework by integrating smart contracts and supporting multiple blockchain networks.
