U.S. Representative Gerald Connolly has called for immediate action to address concerns regarding President Donald Trump's financial relationships, particularly in the cryptocurrency sector. In a letter, Connolly urged the House Oversight and Reform Committee to investigate potential conflicts of interest related to Trump's involvement in cryptocurrency projects, which he claims could undermine the ethics and transparency of the presidency.

Connolly's letter focuses on Trump's role in launching World Liberty Financial (WLF), a cryptocurrency project inspired by Trump's vision of financial independence. According to reports, Justin Sun, the founder of Tron, has made significant investments in WLF. Connolly stated that Justin Sun is a foreign entrepreneur who is under investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for alleged securities fraud related to his own cryptocurrency projects. Sun's $30 million investment in WLF tokens is said to have helped the platform achieve its revenue targets, potentially leading to direct payments to Trump and his family. "The expanding scope of President Trump's financial relationships and the promise of quid pro quo - and thus of the Trump Organization - is concerning," Connolly wrote.
