Yesterday afternoon, the first meme token pepe-RGB issued based on the Bitcoin ecological protocol RGB announced its whitelist. However, many users later reported that the whitelist data was wrong, which also caused more discussions about pepe-RGB in the crypto community.
Whitelist "data source error" sparks community controversy
On the afternoon of the 15th, @PepeRgb20 announced the whitelist of pepe-RGB on the social platform, pointing out that "this whitelist activation point comes from zealy quest and is modified by the pepe-rgb team. Any measures have been taken to prevent bot operations, and all bad data will be eliminated." In other words, users can quickly find out whether they are on the whitelist by using the username of the zealy platform and then opening Google Docs.

However, some community members pointed out that the whitelist was editable at first, and believed that this was a "low-level mistake" that should not be made. At the same time, some people also pointed out that "collecting by zealy username instead of wallet address" is unreasonable in itself. In addition, many members pointed out that the list only contains English names and "directly filters Chinese names."
Later, RGB protocol loyal supporter and community KOL @DaPangDunCrypto said that he had been communicating with the other party: "He probably took zealy's platform username as the bitmask ID by exporting data. Because the bitmask ID does not support special characters, such a list was formed. I have pointed out this problem and he will rework it."
Later, @PepeRgb20 posted again, saying "The data is wrong. I am very sorry for the data I posted before. Its source is wrong. We are dealing with it."

At about 2 am today, the new whitelist was released. According to BlockBeats, some users still pointed out that the whitelist had a "misalignment of names and IDs". Crypto community KOL @xiaowuDD666 also posted a message saying: "Is this what you call professional handling? You don't handle such obvious robot behavior? One or two is fine, but you don't handle 46."

There were various problems with both whitelist releases, which also caused pepe-RGB to be controversial in the community.
What is the hotly debated RGB protocol?
pepe-RGB is a token issued based on the RGB protocol, which is currently considered by many community KOLs to be one of the most promising protocols in the Bitcoin ecosystem.
The RGB protocol is a scalable and confidential Bitcoin and Lightning Network smart contract system developed by the Swiss non-profit organization LNP/BP Standards Association. It aims to introduce the complex programmability and flexibility of smart contract platforms such as Ethereum into the Bitcoin ecosystem. It adopts the concepts of private and common ownership and is a Turing-complete, trustless form of distributed computing. It is a non-blockchain decentralized protocol that does not require the introduction of tokens.
“In the RGB protocol, transaction verification and data storage are done on the client side (such as wallet software) rather than on the blockchain. This prevents transaction data from being made public on the chain, thereby improving privacy. Client verification can also reduce the need for on-chain data storage and improve network scalability. This is also a big difference between RGB and BRC20. Since transaction data is on the client side rather than on the chain, it can theoretically greatly reduce current network congestion and high fees.”
Previously, Tether CTO Paolo Ardoino has publicly supported the RGB protocol twice. On August 18, Paolo Ardoino said that he is actively contributing to the development of RGB projects with Bitfinex and Fulgur Ventures, and firmly believes that once USDT on RGB is launched, the world will witness a powerful and scalable USDT on the Bitcoin layer.
In an interview with The Block on October 19, Paolo Ardoino said that the RGB protocol represents the "best opportunity" to issue stablecoins on Bitcoin, while noting that many well-known figures in the Bitcoin community have unanimously supported RGB. "We believe that RGB integrates all the right elements and can become the legitimate successor to Omni."
