According to U.today on January 21, American digital artist Josh M. Chavez recently stated on Twitter that scammers stole all tokens and NFTs from his on-chain crypto wallet MetaMask.
The artist revealed that a potential client contacted him via direct message on Instagram. Although the "client" account was heavily followed by bots, Chavez decided to ignore this fact. The client had ordered a cover for their upcoming song. Chavez asked them to send details including release information, budget, concept, references, etc. All of these details were sent to Chavez via email.
The scammer sent the files using the name "Oscar Davies," and one of the files was labeled as .PDF, but actually had a .exe extension. Such files are designed to execute computer programs when opened, and once the file was opened, it was immediately tied to the Chrome browser, where the MetaMask wallet is also integrated. In a blink of an eye, it siphoned the tokens from MetaMask and sold all the NFTs at a low price in an auction. Chavez warned users to beware of such scams.
