The labor dispute between Hollywood actors and the entertainment industry's largest studios has once again focused on artificial intelligence (AI), which could become a key issue in ending the months-long strike of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA), according to Decrypt. After intensive negotiations between the two sides, the major studios presented the "last, best, final offer" to the actors' union on Saturday, and now the studios have proposed further concessions on AI regulation, according to Variety. While it is not clear what exactly these concessions include, reports say the proposal is close to actors' long-standing demands for control over the ability of studios to replicate their voices and images through generative AI models. The settlement came after representatives from both sides met again on Monday night to seek more common ground. Although actors say there is still a lot that can be improved in the studios' latest proposal, especially regarding streaming revenue, Hollywood is now hopeful that a common position on AI may be enough for SAG-AFTRA to end the entire strike.
