Binance Academy, our open-access blockchain and Web3 learning center, has joined forces with the Blockchain Center, an independent, non-profit research lab that advances the development of talent in the blockchain sector through education, research and development across the world, to expand their joint blockchain education program globally. Now called the Global University Outreach Program, the initiative was launched at 22 universities in Kazakhstan initially. The program aims to integrate blockchain education into the curricula of more than 200 universities in 50 countries, with a primary focus on blockchain engineering and compliance.
One million Web3 professionals by 2026
To drive the initiative, Binance Academy and Blockchain Center will provide specialized training to over 300 university educators. Another important objective of the program is to create a comprehensive academic knowledge bank, which would facilitate the integration of blockchain engineering and compliance courses into existing educational programs. The initiative is projected to educate more than one million students by 2026.
“The objective of the Blockchain Center is to accelerate the adoption of blockchain technology by stimulating the growth of human capital in the sector. We are proud of our innovative educational initiative that will significantly improve talent development in the sector. The project offers a complete platform for aspiring professionals to explore, experiment and innovate with new solutions in the field”, commented Aidana Kaskyrbek, CEO and Founder of Blockchain Center.
The Blockchain Engineering program offers a comprehensive introduction to distributed ledger technology and equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel as blockchain engineers. The 20-week course is designed to ensure a comprehensive understanding of blockchain development, including the fundamentals of BNB Chain, Web3 and Solidity development, along with information on digital assets.
The Compliance program creates a solid foundation for understanding the issues and opportunities at the intersection of blockchain and regulatory policy. In a 13-week course, he introduces students to the essential elements of blockchain compliance. The course includes an analysis of the various global regulatory frameworks and legal challenges, as well as an outlook on potential digital asset governance models in the future.
Tech readiness meets demand for blockchain
When selecting universities to participate, the Blockchain Center developed a comprehensive methodology that takes into account both regional influence and strong educational infrastructure. Key indices, including the Cryptocurrency Adoption Index and the Frontier Technologies Readiness Index, guided decision-making, highlighting countries with a strong interest in blockchain and a socioeconomic background. to support its adoption. Furthermore, the inclusion of the Academic Freedom Index ensured that the selected countries offered environments capable of promoting free academic discussions and exchanges.
This process led to the selection of a diverse group of countries across Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe, each bringing a unique blend of technological readiness and enthusiasm for blockchain.
Binance Academy will be instrumental in the global expansion of the program, relying on its extensive network of schools and educators to onboard new universities to the program. To further enhance the educational experience, Binance Academy will also help organize guest lectures, drawing on its group of industry experts and influential leaders.
“In the rapidly changing world of digital finance, blockchain education is a key pillar in driving transformation,” said Yi He, Co-Founder of Binance. “Through this educational initiative, Binance Academy and Blockchain Center will cultivate a new generation of skilled talent prepared to move our industry forward and stimulate innovation. Let's keep building."
From a successful pilot plan to global reach
The Global Outreach Program follows the successful pilot plan in Kazakhstan, first announced in December 2022, which incorporated a core blockchain curriculum into academic programs at 22 universities across the country. As part of this initiative, more than 300 university educators have been trained in blockchain engineering and compliance. More than 4,000 students have begun studying these subjects at universities in Kazakhstan.
The pilot program was executed through a multi-step collaborative approach between Blockchain Center and Binance Academy. Initially, the focus was on developing specialized programs and training sessions for university educators. Building on educators' newly acquired expertise, the Blockchain Center worked with university management to finalize academic programs and implement courses developed for students at participating universities.
The successful execution of the pilot project in Kazakhstan informed the decision to start the Global Outreach Program, with Binance Academy and Blockchain Center's ambition to take blockchain education to an international level.
