Jaguar Land Rover has been trialing the use of secure blockchain technology to ensure full transparency within a sustainable leather supply chain.
The company has partnered with Circulor, Bridge of Weir Leather, and the University of Nottingham to create a "digital twin" of the raw material, allowing the movement of the leather through every step in the supply chain to be verified using GPS data, biometrics, and QR codes.
This initiative is part of Jaguar Land Rover's broader strategy to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across its supply chain, products, and operations by 2039, enabled by leading-edge digital capabilities.
Additionally, the company has been testing software that would allow drivers of its cars to earn cryptocurrency for actions such as enabling their vehicles to automatically report useful data or participating in a ride-sharing program.
These efforts demonstrate Jaguar Land Rover's commitment to leveraging blockchain technology for supply chain transparency and sustainability, as well as for innovative customer engagement.
