This ratio is referred to as the Bitcoin Dominance Index, and it is at its highest level in 30 months, specifically since April 2021.
Bitcoin currently controls more than 50% of the overall cryptocurrency market share. The Bitcoin dominance index rose above 50% for the first time since May 2021, when the price of Bitcoin was negatively affected by China's announcement of a ban on cryptocurrency mining and Tesla's decision to partially reduce its digital investments due to environmental concerns.
In June 2022, Bitcoin's share fell below the 50% barrier, due to the decline of the entire digital markets as a result of the high inflation rate in the United States, which led to tightening monetary policy and sharply raising interest rates.
These numbers and changes in the Bitcoin Dominance Index reflect varying market conditions and the distribution of interest among cryptocurrencies, and indicate that Bitcoin maintains its position as the largest and most popular cryptocurrency on the market.
