Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently revealed that he has not sold any of his Ethereum holdings for personal gain since 2018.
On Warpcast, a decentralized social media platform based on the Farcaster protocol, Buterin clarified rumors that he sent Ether to [JYS]: "If you see an article saying 'Vitalik sent XXX ETH to [JYS],' it wasn't actually me selling. It's almost always me donating to some charity, nonprofit, or other project, and the recipient may later choose to sell."
Buterin’s previous cryptocurrency transfers have often sparked speculation, with many interpreting them as a possible sale of digital assets. Such transactions have also sometimes caused market reactions and had an impact on cryptocurrency prices.
What is Vitalik Buterin's current ETH holdings?
Ethereum has been around since 2015. However, as of 2018, Buterin said he only owned 0.9% of the total supply of Ethereum at the time, which was 75 million, meaning he owned at most 675,000 ether.
Simon Cousaert, data director at The Block, pointed out that Buterin currently owns about 250,000 Ethereum according to public address information, with a total value of about $390 million at current market prices. Cousaert also added that Buterin has transferred about 205,000 Ethereum to exchanges over the years. As for the rest of the Ethereum, it may exist in Buterin's undisclosed address and will not be sent to other counterparties.
The chart reveals that over the years, Buterin has transferred more than 30% of his ether to [JYS], which is used for charitable donations and other purposes. In June, Buterin set up his own charity organization Kanro, whose mission is to respond to Covid-19 and other epidemics. According to Arkham data, Kanro's public address currently holds about 75 million USDC.
