important events

The JPEX case continues to ferment. Influenced by the case, the Hong Kong Legislative Council has attached more importance to the regulatory measures related to virtual asset licenses. On October 9, the Financial Affairs Committee will add an agenda to discuss the regulation of virtual asset platforms. Lam Kin-fung, Chairman of the Financial Affairs Committee of the Hong Kong Legislative Council, said that many Internet celebrities do not know what they are promoting, including health foods and financial products, and believe that regulation is needed. "You can't just promote it indiscriminately for money." Otherwise, it may mislead the public and cause losses. Previously, the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission only announced licensed virtual asset trading platforms. In order to optimize and improve regulatory measures, the Securities and Futures Commission announced at the end of September that it would publish different lists and call on investors to invest in licensed platforms. If investors invest in unlicensed platforms, they must bear the risks themselves.

The Korean Digital Asset Exchange Joint Consultative Body (DAXA) will hold a three-day briefing on the Virtual Asset User Protection Act starting on October 11. It will discuss business compliance with the Virtual Asset User Protection Act and unfair trade regulations, saying that the purpose is to help virtual asset business operators prepare for the Virtual Asset User Protection Act which will come into effect in July next year.

Regarding the crypto asset ETFs that have attracted much attention recently, Volatility Shares canceled the Ethereum futures ETF originally scheduled to be launched on October 12. Sources said that the reason for the cancellation was the loss of first-mover advantage. ProShares and Bitwise launched multiple Ethereum-related ETFs in the first week of October. Nate Geraci, president of The ETF Store, said in August that he expected demand for Ethereum futures ETFs to be "generally quite limited", so the first-mover advantage is also a key factor in the decision-making of asset managers. For example, ProShare's Bitcoin Strategy ETF BITO was launched ahead of its competitors in October 2021, accumulating $1 billion in assets faster.

Project Progress

Circle will launch USDC native to Polygon PoS on October 10. This USDC will become the official form of the Polygon ecosystem, replacing the bridged USDC liquidity from Ethereum through the Polygon PoS Bridge. Before the launch of native USDC, the USDC Ethereum bridge form on block browsers such as PolygonScan will be renamed USDC.e. By launching USDC native to Polygon, Circle will support deposits and withdrawals of Circle accounts and its APIs (including Express) on Polygon PoS bridged USDC.e on November 10. After that, only native USDC will be supported.

As one of the NFT pioneers in the crypto world, Yuga Labs and the CryptoPunks community started writing a book six years after the launch of CryptoPunks. To record the book publishing work and the story behind CryptoPunks, CryptoPunks and Zak Group jointly launched a documentary series "Punks As Told By CryptoPunks", the first episode of which will be broadcast on October 10.

NFT Minting

It is not uncommon for domestic industry giants to issue digital collections, but there are very few giants who sell NFTs on OpenSea. China Mobile Migu Video announced at the beginning of this month that its first NFT "Meelier" has opened whitelist pre-sale and will be officially sold on Opensea in the form of blind boxes on October 12. This NFT is based on the character in the popular mobile game "Panda Cafe" and is developed through the "new scene + new technology + new narrative" method. It is limited to 2,000 units worldwide and comes with multiple gameplay and user rights.
