Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Thursday outlined a plan that would make the United States the "crypto capital of the planet," while also promoting his family-backed cryptocurrency project, World Liberty Financial.
What happened: In a post by X this morning, Trump shared a video with his voiceover: "This afternoon, I will lay out my plan to ensure that America is the crypto capital of the planet. They want to strangle you out of the business. We will not let that happen."
The former president also tagged the official account of World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform that he and his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, have been promoting for weeks.

While the video implied that major announcements could be coming in the afternoon, nothing concrete had been announced at the time of writing. Trump's campaign did not immediately respond to Benzinga's request for comment.

Why it matters: On the same day last week, Trump promoted the DeFi initiative through Truth Social, a social media app he created in 2022.
"For too long, average Americans have been held accountable by big banks and financial elites," Trump said in his post. "It's time for us to take a stand, together."
Eric Trump has previously referred to the cryptocurrency project, backed by family-owned conglomerate The Trump Organization, as "digital real estate" that would rival traditional banking.
The platform’s official Telegram channel has over 57,000 subscribers at the time of writing, and the numbers are growing by the day.
The presidential candidate has pivoted to cryptocurrencies as part of his election campaign. He recently launched the latest NFT collection, which has raised over $2 million in revenue.
Trump's Democratic rival Kamala Harris widened her lead over the former president to 45% to 41% in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, with notable gains among women and Hispanic voters.
