Global payments giant Visa announced a $100 million investment in a new fund to invest in generative artificial intelligence (AI) companies to increase its bets on AI in the commerce and settlement fields. Visa Ventures will curate the investment to support companies developing generative AI technologies and applications related to commerce and payments. Generative AI can generate various types of content, such as text, images, audio, and synthetic data. Jack Forestell, chief product and strategy officer at Visa, said generative AI has a bright future in the financial world.

Visa began using AI for payments as early as 1993, deploying AI-based technology for risk and fraud management. In 2021, Visa launched VisaNet + AI, a suite of AI-based services focused on solving delays and confusion in how financial institutions manage account balances and other daily settlement issues. Some of the tools in the VisaNet+ AI suite include smarter alias processing and smarter postings.

Visa is not only actively investing in AI, but is also optimistic about the use of cryptocurrency technology in payments. In April 2021, Visa shared plans for a new crypto product aimed at driving mainstream adoption of public blockchain networks and stablecoin payments. 💰🚀
