On September 17, 2024, a trial will begin on charges of fraud against the former head of the cryptocurrency credit company Celsius, Alex Mashishkin. 🏛️ Judge John Coetl confirmed this at Tuesday's hearing, adding that three preliminary hearings will be held in March, July and September.
Mashishkin remains free on bail of $40 million, but with electronic monitoring and restrictions on spending over $10 thousand. Charges include securities fraud and conspiracy. Mashishkin's lawyers have hinted that their defense could include arguing that cryptocurrencies are not securities.
The trial comes a year after FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried began his trial on charges of commoditized and securities fraud and conspiracy to defraud his exchange's customers.
