According to PANews, the South Korean National Investigation Headquarters' Special Investigation Team, responsible for probing the 'December 3 Emergency Martial Law Incident,' held a press conference on December 9. The team discussed the possibility of emergency detention for Yoon Suk-yeol, stating that if the necessary conditions are met, such detention could be legally executed. However, they emphasized the importance of assessing whether these conditions are indeed present.

The regulations stipulate that emergency detention can be carried out if a suspect is believed to have committed a crime punishable by death, life imprisonment, or a long-term sentence of three years or more, and there is a suspicion of flight or evidence destruction. This measure is applicable when the situation is urgent, and there is insufficient time to request a detention warrant from a judge. The investigation team highlighted the need to carefully evaluate the circumstances to determine if the criteria for emergency detention are satisfied.
