On November 22, 2022, Ex Populus officially announced the completion of the acquisition of LAMO.
When Ex Populus announced LAMO last year, XP was working closely with LAMO LLC, the third-party development studio behind LAMOverse and its related peripherals and AR experiences. Ex Populus served as LAMO's game publisher, providing financial backing and marketing support for LAMO. Over time, the two companies realized that it would be more effective to combine them into a unified whole to make LAMO better. Therefore, Ex Populus decided to acquire LAMO in full:
On November 22, 2022, Ex Populus, a company dedicated to the Web3 gaming ecosystem, acquired LAMO in San Francisco, California. LAMO is a well-known gaming company that includes PC games, augmented reality experiences, and an extended entertainment toy series package. LAMO has been recognized by a series of top game anchors in the past few years and has made waves in the gaming industry. The game tasks and props in LAMO combine virtual online content and offline experiences through AR technology. Ex Populus will bring this virtual and real closer together through interoperable Web3 technology.

Ex Populus further enriched its product line after acquiring LAMO. In addition, Joseph Ganetakos, a senior designer of the Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs series (Ubisoft) and former game director of NetEase, also joined Ex Populus. Rainer Zheim, co-founder of LAMO, said, "Joseph and Tobias are the perfect leaders to bring LAMO to new heights in the Web3 gaming ecosystem. I am very happy to continue to support LAMO and its future development."
Joseph plans to expand the PC gaming experience into a full kingdom and build a multiplayer ARPG set in a fantasy archipelago world where players can interact with narrative activities, develop their own islands and participate in ranked PvP and social events for rewards and reputation. Web3 technology will make it easier for players to carry their collections and creations across the Metaverse.
Joseph Ganetakos said: "As someone who is passionate about connecting people to world-class entertainment experiences, I look forward to helping Ex Populus bring gamers into the Web3 space. I am excited to join this amazing team who have already demonstrated their commitment to building exceptional gaming experiences."
“Having Joseph lead game development at LAMO and the amazing creative IP the LAMO team has developed is perfect for Ex Populus,” said Tobias Batton, co-founder and CEO of Ex Populus. “We believe in the future of Web3.”
Ex Populus, which has received backing from Animoca, Com2US, CMS, CitizenX and several other prominent gaming and Web3 investors, has sold out multiple collectibles over the past year, including LAMO NFTs, Decentralized Autonomous GigaUnits trading cards, and Mike Tyson’s Iron Pigeons trading cards, as well as a trading card management and evolution game released by Final Form.
