LayerZero, a pioneering project in the field of inter-blockchain communication, has announced plans to introduce native tokens. This revelation, announced on December 7, marks a major milestone for LayerZero Labs and the broader blockchain community.

The project's official statement, shared via the official X (Twitter) account, confirmed the long-term design of incorporating the native token in their protocol. The immutable code, present since its inception, serves as a testament to this commitment.

“LayerZero has always been built with the ability to include a native token in the protocol, as can be seen in the immutable code launched on day one… We now state with certainty that there will be a LayerZero token.”

Scheduled for release in the first half of 2024, the distribution of the LayerZero token is the focal point for the project's future efforts. Underscoring their dedication to ensuring a seamless distribution process, the team has dedicated $3 million worth of ZRO tokens to the community distribution pool. Eligibility criteria for the token airdrop includes users who have made more than 10 transactions on the Ethereum mainnet from Q1 2023 to Q3 2023. Notably, the distribution amount will be determined based on activity. personal wallet during this period.

To facilitate this process, LayerZero has opened pre-registration until December 15, 2023. Interested participants can register through various wallets such as MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, Trust Wallet , Binance Wallet or by using WalletConnect via QR code.

LayerZero's main focus lies on cross-blockchain communication, using Ultra Light Node (ULN) and a decentralized oracle network to facilitate crosschain messaging. Notably, this technology enables the development of crosschain applications, bringing interoperability and enhanced functionality across different blockchain networks.

CoinGecko's report highlights significant LayerZero adoption in the DeFi space. Notable platforms such as SushiSwap, Stargate Finance, Radiant Capital, and Trader Joe have used LayerZero for its crosschain capabilities. Currently, the LayerZero network hosts bridges for USDC, BTC.B and Aptos, along with a testnet bridge, demonstrating its commitment to expanding connectivity and functionality across multiple blockchains.
