Cardano founder says Trump's assassination attempt is proof we need decentralization

Cardano and Ethereum co-founder Charles Hoskinson shared his thoughts on the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

He believes that a long-term solution lies in the principles of cryptography such as disintermediation, decentralization, stability and integrity.

Yesterday there was an attempt on Trump's life. The bullets narrowly missed him, hitting his right ear. If he had not turned his head at that very moment, he could have been killed.

Unfortunately, the man behind Trump was killed and two others were injured. The shooter was also killed while trying to stop him.

Charles said the incident, while shocking, is not entirely surprising given the current state of American politics.

He believes that political discourse in the United States has shifted from legitimate disagreement to a mentality in which dissenters are viewed as enemies who must be destroyed. This radicalization of opinions leads to political violence.

Charles also discussed the role of social media in this incident. He mentioned that some of the first reactions on social media were not thoughts and prayers, but comments expressing disappointment that the shooter missed. He said,

“It’s very sad that people wish death on those they disagree with.”

Charles believes that social media and instant communication have led to people viewing others not as people, but as characters who can either be loved or hated. This dehumanization makes meaningful political change impossible. He said:

“We must take a moment to reflect if we ever hope to emerge from all of this and realize that while we may be divisive at times, we must never lose sight of our common humanity.”

According to Charles, the next 48 to 72 hours will be very important for American history. He believes that lack of trust in centralized institutions, including political ones, is a serious problem. He added that:

“We've gotten to the point where no matter who's in charge, no matter what they do and what they achieve, we can't fully trust them for a number of reasons. Politics is no different. In fact, this is the epicenter of all these things.”

Regardless of the election results, Charles predicts there will be a bitter split going forward. He encourages people to think about the benefits of decentralization, which does not depend on individual leaders who can be persecuted or demonized.

He said: “There is no one to shoot at. There is no one to demonize. There is no one to canonize.”
