When you're on Twitter these days, have you noticed that some users have a plus sign in their names?
For example, +tree, this name is a decentralized identity business card (Decentralized Identity) that is permanently registered on the Bitcoin mainnet and belongs entirely to me.
These names starting with a “+” sign come from the Realm Name System (RNS) of the Atomicals protocol.
RNS is a disruptive experiment of DNS and an important core part of Atomicals protocol. If you are interested in DID or domain name, you must not miss Realm in Bitcoin ecosystem. Owning your own name here will become a part of Bitcoin cultural history, and at the same time complete a special behavior interaction of Bitcoin mainnet.
The primary function of Realm is DID (decentralized identity). Unlike most Web3 domain names, it is a naming system built on Bitcoin itself, which can play a role in DAO, SocialFi, payment, whitelist, web hosting, etc.
Recently, as the Bitcoin network fees have dropped, the cost of minting Realm names has dropped, and many people have begun to hoard their own Realms. According to Realm Daily (@RealmNameDaily), the daily growth of new Realm minting has rebounded, and hundreds of new Realm names have been minted in recent days.
So, how do you create your own domain name online? And how much does it cost?
First of all, before you start, you need to choose a Bitcoin wallet. I will use three wallets as examples: Wizz Wallet, Unisat Wallet, and OKX Web3 Wallet.
Choose one of the wallets and make sure you have a Taproot address (that is, the address starting with "bc1p") and deposit a certain amount of BTC as the minting fee.
In the current gas environment of 10-15 Sats/vB, each Realm minting costs approximately 2-3U of BTC.
① Wizz wallet operation method (taking browser plug-in as an example) [Recommended]
If you don’t have Wizz Wallet, you can download it from the official website (http://wizzwallet.io)
After opening the browser plug-in wallet, you can see four buttons at the top: Receive, Send, History, Mint
Click the yellow Mint button and you will be redirected to the Mint page.
At this time, there are four columns at the top: ARC20, DMint, Realm, NFT
Used for: minting tokens (ARC20), minting collection NFTs (DMint), minting domain names (Realm), uploading files to mint NFTs (NFT)
We select Realm and notice that there are two options in the first row: Subrealm and Realm
Subrealm is a "sub-domain". For example, if I have a +tree and open its sub-domain registration, everyone can come here to register +http://tree.xxx
Realm is the main domain, which is a first-level domain without a suffix like "+tree", "+xxx", "+abc123".
Therefore, we need to select Realm. Then the second line below shows "Realm" and "Enable Subrealm". At this time, we select "Realm" by default. The latter is used after owning the main realm, hoping to make profits from the subrealm or form a DAO, etc., and then try to open a subrealm (Enable Subrealm)
Next, we can try to enter some field names in the input box below.
When we enter tree, a prompt will appear: "The realm +tree has been minted", which means that the realm has been registered/minted.
Let's try to input something else, such as a few random letters sjak. After it is recognized as casting, a bunch of other information options will appear below:
The default setting for Bitworkc is fine. It refers to the custom option of mining difficulty for this Realm. Currently, there is not much application scenario.
Sats in Realm represents how many sats this realm needs to occupy. The default value is 1000 and the minimum value is 546. It can be left unchanged.
If you need to send the minted domain to other addresses, turn on "Received By Other Address" and enter the address you want to receive (note that it can only be sent to the Taproot address)
In Configs, you can choose to customize the transaction fee. Please note that if the fee is too low, blocks will not be produced for a long time and the block may be snatched away by others.
Once everything is ready, make sure that you have enough BTC available, click "Mint Realm" at the bottom, sign and pay the handling fee, and you can start minting. Once this transaction is generated, the minting is complete.
② How to operate the Unisat wallet (taking the browser plug-in as an example)
If you don’t have a Unisat wallet, you can download it from the official website (https://unisat.io/download)
Once your wallet is ready, you can choose to mint from one of the following two platforms:
（1）AtomicalMarket（https://atomicalmarket.com/mint/realm）
The operation of this platform is relatively simple. If you want to experience various gameplays such as sub-fields, it is recommended to use Wizz wallet.
First, after entering the website, connect your Unisat wallet in the upper right corner, then enter the domain name you want in the first line of this page, and enter the receiving address in the second line (you can leave it unchanged by default)
If you enter "tree" and click Mint, the page prompts: Realm Already Minted, which means that this domain name has been registered by someone else.
Let’s change another one, such as randomly inputting a few letters hska, and then click Mint, and you can start to customize the transaction fee (note that if you give too low a fee, blocks will not be generated for a long time, and it may be snatched away by others)
Then confirm the signature, and the minting is completed after the transaction is out of the block.
（2）Satsx（https://satsx.io/inscribe/atomicals?template=realm…）
The operation of this platform is also relatively simple. If you want to experience various gameplays such as sub-fields, it is recommended to use Wizz wallet.
First, once you enter the website, connect your Unisat wallet in the upper right corner.
In the first line of the page, you can see three options: Mint Realm, Transfer Realm, and Mint Subrealm. The first one, “Mint Realm”, is selected by default.
Then enter the realm name you want in the first line; Bitwork Commit in the second line refers to the customization of mining difficulty, which can be ignored and the default is fine; Sats in the third line refers to how many satoshis you want this Realm to contain, with a minimum of 546 and a default of 1000, which can be changed or not.
If you want to receive the Realm from another address, turn on "Receive by Other Address" and enter the target address.
After confirmation, click "Preview" at the bottom.
For example, when we want to mint the field name "tree", after clicking Preview, it will prompt "Already exists with this name.", indicating that this name has been minted by someone else.
We randomly change a letter combination, for example, "shda", and Preview finds that it can be minted. At this time, there is a "Transaction Fees" at the bottom of the page where you can customize the transaction fee, which is determined according to the real-time Gas situation (note that if the fee is too low, no blocks will be produced for a long time, and it may be snatched away by others).
After confirmation, click "Inscribe" at the bottom and sign to start minting.
③ OKX wallet operation method (taking mobile APP as an example)
Switch to the Web3 wallet in the OKX APP and make sure you have sufficient BTC balance (please select the bc1p wallet when withdrawing money).
Click "Discover" in the lower right corner of the wallet, then search for DAPP at the top: AtomicalMarket or SatsX
(1) If you select AtomicalMarket, after entering the DAPP, click Connect Wallet in the upper right corner, select OKX Wallet, and confirm that you are connecting to the wallet whose address begins with bc1p.
After the connection is successful, click the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner, select "MINT", and then select the third section "Realm" from the top navigation bar.
For the subsequent process, please refer to ②-（1） above.
(2) If you select Satsx, after entering the DAPP, click the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner, then click Connect at the bottom, select OKX Wallet, and confirm to connect to the wallet whose address begins with bc1p.
Click "Inscribe" in the navigation bar in the upper right corner, then switch the protocol at the orange button in the upper left corner and select the Atomicals protocol (the logo is an inverted V shape).
Then we can see four button labels appearing in the first row of the page: DMINT, FT, REALM, NFT. Select the third Realm.

Finally, a few points worth noting:
(1) Currently, the registration status of Realm is that 1-3 letters, 2-digit and 3-digit names have all been registered (2-digit refers to a combination of letters + numbers). The total number of registrations can be seen here @RealmNameDaily ;
(2) Realm rules do not allow names to start with numbers, so there is no hype around pure numbers. Instead, names are mainly short letters or meaningful words.
(3) Realm can also register EMOJI or various languages, but they need to be converted into Punycode for registration. For example, the word "牛逼" needs to be converted into "xn--11x805d" and then MINTed. In the end, the Chinese word "牛逼" will still be displayed in the market.
(4) After the minting is successful, if you want to place an order for trading, there are three channels: the Realm section of the AM market [recommended], direct order placement in the OKX wallet (OKX's built-in NFT market), and the Realm section of the SatsX market. The OKX market cannot be classified and searched, and there are very few orders in the SatsX market.
(5) Risk Warning: Realm has only been around for less than a year and is still an immature emerging market. The future value of each Realm cannot be guaranteed. This article is only a casting tutorial and not an investment advice!
