The price of the #Bitcoin plummeted this Wednesday, falling below $26,000 for the first time since August 12, after it was revealed that Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX and Tesla, had sold all of his reserves of the most popular cryptocurrency in the world.
According to a Wall Street Journal report, SpaceX reduced the value of its $BTC holdings by a total of $373 million in 2022 and 2021, a 90% cut from its initial investment. The space travel company would have sold its bitcoins between May and July of this year, taking advantage of the price spikes that occurred after Musk's favorable comments about the digital currency.
The news sparked a sell-off among bitcoin investors, who fear Musk has lost confidence in the future of the cryptocurrency or has other plans for their capital. Bitcoin fell 4.5% in the last 24 hours, trading at $25,802 per unit¹, according to data from CoinMarketCap³. Bitcoin's market capitalization fell to $507.94 billion, representing 42.8% of the total cryptocurrency market.
Technical analysts note that bitcoin has broken the key support of $26,000, which could trigger further losses in the short term. The next level to watch is the July 20 low, around $24,750². On the contrary, if bitcoin manages to recover above $26,000, it could face strong resistance at $31,790, which is the August 15 high².
Musk's sale has also affected the rest of the #Criptomonedas market, which has lost more than $100 billion in value in the last 24 hours. Other major cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum, Binance Coin, Cardano and XRP have also recorded drops of more than 3%. The only exception has been Solana, which has maintained its bullish rally and has reached a new all-time high of $75³.
