XRP wasn’t hacked. The bridge basically tricked itself.

That’s the part of the Coreum exploit that should worry crypto users.

An attacker drained 199,916 XRP in just 97 minutes.

But they didn’t steal private keys.

They didn’t break the XRP Ledger.

They didn’t even need to forge the bridge’s multisig signatures.

They created the illusion of deposits.
The bridge’s relayers apparently failed to verify one critical thing:

Did the XRP actually arrive at the bridge wallet?
The answer was no.

Yet the system treated the fake activity as legitimate deposits — and its own authorization process released almost the entire ~200,000 XRP reserve.

That leaves a brutal lesson:

A blockchain can be secure while the software connecting it to another blockchain is not.

And this is why I’m more worried about bridges than blockchains.

The bridge went from roughly 200,410 XRP → just 493.5 XRP.
