Rumors about the PlayStation 5 Pro continue to surface. It was recently revealed that certification of games for compatibility with the enhanced console will begin in August, and now some new details have emerged about the conditions for developers to receive "PS5 Pro Enhanced" verification for their projects.
According to The Verge, Sony is asking developers to create a special graphics mode for the PS5 Pro in addition to the traditional quality and performance modes already present in many games for the standard PS5.
However, the company isn't imposing strict requirements on developers to obtain the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label. It's sufficient for developers to add a graphics mode that is better than those available on the base PS5.
For example, on the PS5 Pro, a game may maintain 30 FPS but achieve a higher fixed or dynamic resolution. Conversely, the resolution between versions for the PS5 and PS5 Pro may remain the same, but the frame rate could be increased from 30 to 60 or even 120 FPS. Including ray tracing, if it wasn't previously available, without significant efforts to improve resolution or frame rate, can also qualify for the enhanced status.
The "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label cannot be obtained if the game maintains the same target resolution and frame rate range. If a game runs at a resolution from 1440p to 4K on the base PS5 and operates closer to the upper end of this range on the PS5 Pro, it won't be considered an enhancement. Similarly, if a game aims for 60 FPS on both the standard PS5 and PS5 Pro but runs smoother on the latter, it won't be taken into account.
It's also interesting to note that the PlayStation 5 Pro will offer a Boost Mode, which will improve performance for a significant portion of games, even if developers haven't released special patches optimized for the updated console.
