U.S. job openings have surged — and that’s not the news markets hoping for a dovish Fed were waiting for.
Fact: September JOLTS job openings rose to 7.523 million, up from 7.19 million in August — well above economists’ estimates of around 7.13–7.15 million (CoinDesk & Kitco, Nov. 3). The data is from September, but the message remains the same: the U.S. labor market is still strong.
My take: a strong labor market gives the Fed room to stay tight, which is a headwind for risk assets. BTC is still around $77,200 tonight, and the bounce from the $76,300 range this morning hasn’t changed the bigger picture.
What I’m watching next: Friday’s jobs report (expectations: 65,000 new jobs, 4.2% unemployment) and the results of the U.S. midterm elections, which start coming in tomorrow morning.
Do you think this strong jobs data puts more pressure on BTC, or has the market already priced it in?
